Wine of South Africa

Wine of South Africa

Although South Africa has been producing wine since 1659, political struggles in the late 1990s has meant only now is South Africa establishing itself firmly as a major world class wine producer.

A new generation of younger winemakers combined with better viticulture has really transformed the quality of South African wine in the 21st Century. Pinotage and Chenin Blanc are the leading red and white grapes but the Mediterranean-like climate of The Cape also allows many of the international grape varieties to thrive. CellarVino primarily works with Imbuko Wines in Paarl, where we source the premium packaged Roos Estate as well as the estate bottled Van Zijl range named after the owner and winemaker Theunis van Zyl.
